THE Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has awarded Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to both new and returning products manufactured by seven Enugu-based firms for outstanding quality.

The MANCAP certificate issuance is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, SON South-East Regional Operations Directorate, Mr Paul Iorkyaa, in Enugu on Tuesday.

Iorkyaa said that the award certificates and logos presentation to the representatives of the companies held on Friday, Aug. 26, at SON’s office in Enugu.

“The certification is part of the Director-General of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim’s strategic design to ensure that at the end of the fourth quarter year, 99 per cent of Nigerian products are certified to fit global competitiveness.

“The MANCAP certification will ensure improved standardisation and quality assurance that will facilitate trade for the brands and the companies within and outside the country.

“SON’s MANCAP certification is coming just in the nick of time as a beacon light of hope of quality assurance to thousands of manufacturers and millions of consumers in the nation as well,” he said.

He said that the State Coordinator of SON, Mr Francis Onyeji, in an address, reiterated SON’s commitment to providing Standards and Quality Assurance to all products, services and processes in Nigeria.

The SON spokesman said: “SON is moving in line with international best practices and to ensure continual improvement of all products, services and processes in the country.

“The certificate belongs to SON and can be withdrawn at any time should the companies failed to continually meet the requirements of the standards and keeping to international best practices,”  said Iorkyaa.

Iorkyaa said that the awardees while receiving the awards, promised to always conform to the requirements of the standards and strive for continual improvement of their products.
