South Africa to file additional papers to ICJ on Israeli genocide case
Foreign
SOUTH Africa will in October file additional papers to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to provide evidence on the Israeli genocide case, said the South African Presidency.
In 2023, South Africa approached the ICJ seeking an interdict for the court to force Israel to stop attacking Palestine and declare it genocide.
The world court in January ordered Israel to take all possible measures to prevent genocide acts and ensure humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
“South Africa will be filing its memorial to the ICJ in October 2024,” said Vincent Magwenya, the presidential spokesperson, in a statement issued by the presidency.
“South Africa intends to provide facts and evidence to prove that Israel is committing the crime of genocide in Palestine.”
“Thus far, there has been no request by any government to drop the case that the South African government has brought before the ICJ.
This case would continue until the court makes a finding. While the case is in progress, we hope that Israel would abide by the court’s provisional orders issued to date,” he said.
The spokesperson noted that the case represents a growing global effort towards ensuring peace in the Middle East. (Xinhua/NAN)
