South East Conference of Speakers to establish Legislative Implementation Committee

THE South East Conference of Speakers have resolved to establish south east legislative reform implementation committee with a secretariat at Enugu.

Rita Maduagwu, chairman of the conference and speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly,  said this in her opening remarks at the meeting.

“There is need for more robust synergy among Houses of Assemblies in the south east zone through the south east legislative implementation committee.’’

Maduagwu said: “the conference is particularly about those laws and reforms that will unite and develop the south east zone and provide meaningful livelihood for the people’’.

The speaker said that Nigeria’s legislative institution required serious reforms in order to function effectively as the first arm of government.

Other reforms adopted during the meeting, include House Service Commission, Capacity-Building for House members, Uniform Rules and State Houses’ Autonomy and Self-accounting.

In attendance were the chairman of the conference and Anambra State speaker, Maduagwu and her Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi and Abia counterpart
