EBERE Amaraizu, former Board Member and South-East Director of Nationwide League One (NLO), has urged the Super Eagles to wake up from their slumber in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Amaraizu made the call on Sunday shortly after the match between Super Eagles of Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea ended in a 1 – 1 draw.

He said there was complacency on the part of the Super Eagles, adding that the nation’s national team had capacity to do better.

According to him, there was absence of that creative midfield for creation of enabling chances and supplies which made Super Eagles attackers to be struggling throughout the match.

He said: “We need to restrategize in order to be able to make statement in our remaining two group matches.

“A win for the Super Eagles in the next match will open their chances but it means that they have to work the tight rope though not looking down on any team, with great team work and coordination.”

A football fan, Danny Onyema, said that it was disheartening that the Super Eagles did not win their first match, which they should have clinically finished in grand style.

Onyema said: “Complacency and underrating of the Equatorial Guinea national team landed us in a draw and we have to step up our game if we want to remain in the tournament.”

Another fan, Favour Peters, said that
he lost the money he placed on bet that Super Eagles will definitely win the match.

“I am yet to come to terms on how we allowed Equatorial Guinea to get away with a draw.

“It is unfortunate that the Super Eagles have ruined my celebration this evening. I am not happy,” Peters said. (NAN)
