HISTORY was made on Wednesday, October 5, as FC Ifeanyi Ubah signed a partnership pact with West Ham United, an English Premiership club, in an elaborate ceremony at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Ifeanyi Ubah, chairman, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, assured that he is in sports business to succeed. He said, “I see sports as business and I have never started a business venture that didn’t succeed. I want to attract investments and tourism to Anambra State through this venture.”

He said that the FC Ifeanyi Ubah partnership with West Ham United involved multiple interests that include, but not limited to “exploring the potential of our youths in the international scene, increased revenue for our club, training of our personnel, scouting, football development, transfer of players, playing friendly matches, etc. Above all, our parent company, Capital Oil has been given more visibility internationally, as you find the company’s name on the pitch panel in West Ham’s home games. The benefits are enormous.”

On his part, Angus Kinnear, managing director of West Ham FC, described his club as an outfit with a fantastic heritage. He commended the partnership with FC Ifeanyi Ubah as having come at the right time. “We are very discerning and selective in our choice of partners. We deal with people and organisations that share the same vision and we find that in Dr Ifeanyi Ubah.

“Like he said, the partnership is limitless,” Kinnear said, adding: “we have the best academy in world football. We have vision, purpose and discipline.”

Some other dignitaries at the event included Obinna Ogba, chairman, Senate committee on Sports; Amaju Pinnick, president, Nigeria Football Federation and Shehu Dikko, second vice president who doubles as chairman of the League Management Company.
