RANGERS International FC’s Media Officer, Norbert Okolie, said their 1-2 loss on Sunday to Etiole du Sahel in Tunisia was regrettable as it dented Rangers’ unbeaten record in the group.

The match with Etoile was the fourth for Rangers in Group A of the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup where the Flying Antelopes are expected to host Etoile du Sahel in the reverse fixture on March 3.

Okolie told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the team did not bargain for the loss when they departed for Tunisia.

“It is unfortunate that we lost to Etoile when we did not even think of losing because we prepared well for the match.

“Well, we still have an advantage over them and other clubs in the group as we still have two more home matches to play in the group.

Okolie noted that the players gave their all in the match, saying that some circumstances led to the club’s defeat in Tunisia.

“Our players would have come with a positive result if not for the weather which was so harsh.

“We are not used to the cold weather and may be the players saw the match as an easy one compared to C S Sfaxien match,’’ he said.

Okolie expressed joy that Sfaxien were held to a goalless draw in Tunisia by Salitas FC of Burkina-Faso to brighten Rangers chances.

The club’s media officer said that their qualification to the next round was still possible, noting that they would do all in their capacity to beat the two North African teams in Enugu.

NAN reports that Sfaxien now leads the group with five points while Etoile du Sahel and Rangers are tied on four points each as Salitas remain at the bottom with two points. (NAN)
