RANGERS International FC of Enugu Chief Coach, Benedict Ugwu, has assured the club’ supporters of a re-sounding victory over visiting A.S. Pelican of Gabon in the second leg, first round encounter slated for Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Ugwu, a former Super Eagles defence Trojan gave the words of assurance to the supporters on Friday in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Flying Antelopes, seven-time champions of the Nigerian Premier League, is the Nigeria’s surviving team in the Total/CAF Confederation Cup 2019/2020.
Rangers FC, winners of African Winners Cup 1977, will trade tackles with continental first timers, A.S. Pelican of Gabon at “The Cathedral’’, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Sept. 29, 2019.
They will seek to upturn the 2-1 first leg loss and book a place in the play-off round for a chance of a consecutive group stage appearance in the second tier continental club competition.
Ugwu assessing the team during their training sessions stressed that the level of intensive sessions had tuned the players to the level they need to be to conquerors.
“No doubt, we lost the first leg in Libreville but with our preparation so far, I can assure that we are good to go for a win that will qualify us for the next round.
“Let our fans come out in their numbers on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 to cheer us to victory,” he said in statement by the club’s the Media Officer, Norbert Okolie.
Rangers International FC mercurial midfielder, Chiamaka Madu also described the second leg, first round against A.S. Pelican as a must win game.
“This will help us to realise the dream of doing better than we did last term in the same competition.
“I think the game is a must win game for us if we must qualify for the next round of the competition.
“The expectations of our fans all over the world is to get a win against Pelican of Gabon which I am sure we are prepared to get due to the intensity of training by our coaches.
“By the special grace of God, we shall earn our win on Sunday in Enugu,” said Madu.
On the motivation level in the team, Madu, former Sharks FC of Port Harcourt star, said the team needed to get to the group stage.
“We need to go a step better than what we did last season.
“That is enough motivation for the entire team coupled with the ever present management and government to answer to any of our needs toward achieving our targets in both domestic and continental engagements this season.
“We have put the 1-2 loss in Libreville behind us to focus on getting the result that will propel us to the next round,’’ he said. (NAN)
