Chukwudi Olisakwe, a 4x100m African Junior Athletics Championships gold medallist, on Monday said he was fit to represent the country in any national and international competitions.

Olisakwe, who alongside Divine Oduduru, ThankGod Igbube and Victor Peka won the medal in Addis Ababa, said he had resumed training and working hard to ensure that 2019 would be a good year for him.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone in Lagos that though there had been few competitions for home-based athletes in 2018, he believed that 2019 would be better.

“I believe that God knows the best and he will do more than I expect in 2019 because we didn’t really have much competitions as home-based in 2018.

“But, I never stopped doing what I love the most, training is always essential.

“I am working hard and preparing more to be the first in my event which is 100m by God’s grace so as to represent my country in some upcoming international competitions in 2019.

The athlete, who represented the country last in 2015 at international meets, said that his target for 2019 was to race a good time, compete in European leagues and get a scholarship.

“My target for 2019 is to race a good and perfect time, make it to the European leagues, study abroad where there are more and better facilities if I get the needed help.

“I am still hoping to get admission abroad, and I am really hopeful ,” he said.

Olisakwe, said he hoped to use the upcoming National Sports Festival in Abuja to prove that he is still fit and still on track. (NAN)
