NO fewer than 10,000 boxing fans are being expected at the GOtv Boxing Night 17 at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos on Dec. 28, the organisers said on Thursday.

Chidoze Bede-Nwokoye, Gotv’s Marketing Manager, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the company had gone to great length to prepare for the event because of its uniqueness.

“Our company is committed to developing boxing in Nigeria, especially in the task of nurturing boxers to stardom.

“This is why the fight night tagged `Boxing Jams Music’ is being expected to have no fewer than 10,000 spectators.

“Four top notch Nigerian musicians will be on ground to provide beautiful music tunes to add to the glamour of the fight night.

“We are happy to be back for another boxing extravaganza which promises to be the mother of all boxing events ever staged in Nigeria.

“The night will see us having eight bouts, and among these fights will also be two international title fights,’’ he said.

Bede-Nwokoye pointed out that it was now four great years since they had been organising the fight night with good success.

“It has become a platform Nigeria’s finest boxers have used to launch themselves to international stardom.

“We are satisfied about the level of awareness and recognition the sporting show has earned all over the continent and we are forever committed to doing more,” he said.

NAN reports that there will, among the fights, be a 12-round bout between Nigeria’s Seun Wahab and Issa “Peche’’ Nampepeche of Tanzania for the World Boxing Federation (Intercontinental) Super Featherweight title.

Another international duel would be between Oluwafemi “the Eagle’’ Oyeleye of Nigeria and Meshack “Smart Boy’’ Mwankemwa of Tanzania in an eight-round international middleweight challenge.

Africa’s lightweight champion Olaide “Fijaborn’’ Fijabi is scheduled to face Yusuf Muftau in a national light-welterweight fight.

Another African sensation, Oto “Joeboy’’ Joseph, will face Hammed “Ese Hammed’’ Ganiyu in a national lightweight challenge.

In another national lightweight challenge, Rilwan “Real One’’ Oladosu will face Mubarak Hamzat.

Ridwan “Scorpion’’ Oyekola will take on Nurudeen “Prince’’ Fatai in a national super featherweight challenge.

Also, Femi “Small Tyson’’ Akintayo will face Ebubechukwu “Coded Man’’ Edeh in a national middleweight challenge.

Opeyemi “Sense’’ Adeyemi is scheduled to fight Saheed “Gbeminiyi’’ Ahmed in a national bantamweight challenge.

Meanwhile, Jenkins Alumona, the Managing Director Flykite Promotions, has told NAN that all arrangements have been put in place to hold a hitch-free event.

“We have had 16 events so far and we have no cause to see a situation beyond our control, a good testament to the security operatives we employ to get the job done.

“However, we are not relaxed as we are working round the clock to put in place a very tightly- secured boxing fight night for fans to come and enjoy in a very relaxed atmosphere.

“We have staged the boxing shows in many locations and we are very confident of a very hitch-free event,” Alumona said
