AUDU Ejo, the Head Coach of the Super Sand Eagles, has said that the team was focused on qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, through the upcoming All African Beach Soccer qualifying Tournament in Cape Verde.

The coach, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos, said that the competition will hold from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1.

“Since after our qualification at the CAF beach soccer tournament in Egypt, we knew what our next challenge is and that’s our main focus for now.

“Ensuring that we qualify for the Olympics is important; it will be our first time, and we want to see how that goes, as that will further boost our morale at the World Cup in Paraguay.

“We will work hard and pray luck smiles on us as it did in Egypt, my boys trained individually, I encouraged them to do that; we met at the airport, defeated the host country, and qualified,’he said.

When asked about the previous annual COPA Lagos Beach Soccer Tournament, which did not hold in 2018, and how its absence had affected their preparations for the tournament in Egypt, he told NAN that the team had to adjust.

NAN reports that COPA Lagos is an international tournament usually organised by Kinetic Sports, and since its inception in 2011 the tournament had perpetually served as a tune-up competition for the Super Sand Eagles for major tournaments.

“Honestly, it affected us, but my boys were determined, we met at the airport, and I’ve always joked about us not training before jetting out for a tournament, and it happened just like that. (NAN)
