DAVISON Owumi, the General Manager, Rangers International of Enugu, has attributed the club’s performance so far in the Continental Championship and Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to the commitment and support of the club’s critical stakeholders.

Owumi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Tuesday, describing the massive support from the state government, players, technical crew, supporters’ club and other major stakeholders as instrumental to the success so far recorded by the club.

He said: “We give all the glory to God who gave us the feat and we are grateful for the maximum support of the state government, players and the technical crew.

“The government, technical crew and the players have all been constant and determined in making the club what it is today.

“It is all these components, including the fans and media, that are greatly responsible for the club’s success in the ongoing CAF Confederation’s Cup and NPFL.”

He said that the club’s target was to win trophies, pointing out that they were doing well in the Aiteo/NFF Cup Championship.

Owumi said: “Playing a continental championship is one of the best things that can happen to any football club.

“We have gone seven matches unbeaten in the Confederation’s Cup competition,” he said, adding, “We are determined in making Rangers what it is and what it should be.”

He said that players and the technical crew were doing the best they could, adding that the standard could not be the same with what obtained in the early days of the club.

“Things were better in those days compared to what we are experiencing today. In our own time, we achieved the best from what was available.

“There is no yardstick to compare our days and today’s Rangers because they are doing what is obtainable in their time and we did what was prevalent in our own time,” he said.

He further spoke on the club’s target for the year, saying that they hoped to “reach the level where luck and determination could take us.”

Owumi said: “The present Rangers is work in progress and in as much as we hope to achieve the best, we think that we are still learning the rope.

“We are optimistic that everybody wants to win but we are not going to stretch our optimism too far.

“So, wherever nature takes us to, we will be grateful to God,” he said. (NAN)
