Sri Lanka to strengthen relations with Britain under Truss

SRI Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday said his government would further strengthen ties with Britain, after Elizabeth Truss was appointed as the new British prime minister.

The president in a statement, voiced his willingness to cooperate with particularly the context of Global Britain and the UK’s new Platinum Partnership scheme with the Commonwealth family of nations.

He appreciated Sri Lanka’s inclusion as a beneficiary country in the recently announced Developing Country Trading Scheme of the UK.

It added that Sri Lanka was prepared to celebrate its 75th Anniversary of Independence in February 2023 and looked forward to further consolidation of cooperation with Britain. (Xinhua/NAN)
