THE Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) branch on Monday joined the one week warning strike declared by its national body over disparity in payment of their four months salary arrears.

Comrade Daniel Dajen, SSANU branch Chairman said that members of the union would not return to work until they got alert of their four months’ salary arrears from 2022.

According to him, their counterparts, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had been paid the said arrears.

Dajen also cited the N50 billion earned allowance captured in the 2023 budget that was not paid to them and the wage award being enjoyed by other categories of staff in universities.

The SSANU chairman said that lack of funding of Federal universities was crippling the system.

He said that the cost of power supply alone was taking the chunk of the internally generated revenue of FULafia.

Dajen, therefore, urged the federal government to do the needful in view of the current economic hardship and the future of students in the university.

The News Agency Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the union were seen with placards in front of the main gate of the university with inscriptions such as “Pay Us Our Salaries Now, “We Are Not Slaves” to press home their demands.(NAN)
