POLITICAL Parties and the National Electoral Commission, NEC, have agreed that the Sierra Leone presidential run-off poll will hold on March 31.
The date was arrived at after the meeting of heads of international observation missions comprising Prof Amos Sawyer (ECOWAS); John Mahama, former Ghanian President (Commonwealth); Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan (EISA), Kgalima Motlanthe (AU), in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on Monday with the two presidential candidates and NEC Sierra Leone officials led by its chairman Mohamed N’fah-Alie Conteh, on the way forward for the presidential run-off election.
The meeting came on the heels of the High Court which had issued an interim injunction suspending the vote earlier fixed for 27 March, vacating the order on Monday.
The meeting iron out contentious issues and assisted the political stakeholders to reaching a consensus on a new date for a peaceful and credible election.
The flag bearers of the ruling APC and opposition SLPP, Samura Kamara and rtd Brig. Julius Maada Bio, respectively, are contesting in the run-off to choose a replacement for out-going President Ernest Bai Koroma.
