A stock-keeper, Ibrahim Faith, was on Tuesday docked in an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 207 cartons of soft drinks worth N6.5 million.

The police charged Faith, whose address was not given with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Ade Adeyanju, told the court that sometime in Sept., 2021 the defendant was employed as a stock-keeper with ‘De Alexandez’ enterprise limited in Garki old market.

The police said that in September, she stole 207 cartons of soft drinks worth N6.5 million.

Adeyanju said during police investigation, the defendant was not able to give justifiable account of her actions and investigation is still ongoing for the recovery of the stated goods.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Malam Hassan Mohammed, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N6.5 million, with two ‘reasonable’ sureties.

Mohammed ordered that the sureties, whose addresses must be verified by the registrar, must also be resident within the courts’ jurisdiction.

The Judge also ordered that the sum of N1.5 million must be deposited in court as part of bail condition.

He further ordered that the sureties must deposit their national identification card with the court; and then adjourned the case until Dec. 2, for further hearing. (NAN)
