THE Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufo-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi branch, says it will sanction defaulters of its ongoing nationwide strike.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the N
non-teaching staff unions of universities had, on Monday, embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike due to the non-payment of the withheld four months’ salaries.

The JAC comprises the NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

The AE-FUNAI’s NASU Chairman, Mr Chibuike Igwe, told NAN on Tuesday that the union had mobilised for the full compliance to the industrial action in the university.

“Yes, having completely carried all our members along effectively from the day of the national protest of July 17, to date, we are eager to join efforts with the national headquarters to press home our demand.

“In AE-FUNAI, we have declared the strike, in line with the national headquarters’ directive.

“Monitoring team will continue to move round to enforce full compliance.

“The defaulters of the strike will be surely penalised.

“The university management has been communicated adequately.

“We need our money because we worked for it.

“Let the Federal Government pay us our withheld four months salaries and we shall come back to work.

“For now, no going back to work until something positive is done for the benefit of our members,” Igwe said. (NAN)
