Student bags 6 months imprisonment for stealing 6 cell phones

A Sokoto Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday sentenced a student, Bashir Isa,20, to six months imprisonment for stealing six cell phones and a Nokia battery.

Isa, who resides at Alkamawa area of Sokoto, pleaded guilty to a count charge of theft leveled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, who sentenced Isa, did not give him any option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Abubakar Mohammed, told the court that the accused entered the house of one Ibrahim Sani of Maniru Road, Sokoto and stole his six cell phones and a Nokia battery.

Mohammed said the case was reported on Sept.11, at Area Command Sokoto by the complainant.
He said that three cell phones and a Nokia battery were recovered during police investigation, while the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
