GOV. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the distribution of foodstuffs across the 14 Local Government Areas to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

The Spokesman to the Governor, Sulaiman Idris, disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

Idris stated that the governor’s decision to distribute the foodstuffs was in line with the current reality in the country and his commitment “to mitigate the effects of the hike in petrol pump price”.

He stated that arrangements were being made to ensure that the palliatives reached the people without hitches.

“Phase one of the food distribution will commence with rice and maize,  amongst items.

“Modalities and a high-powered committee have been set up for the success of the activities.

“The distribution process will be non-partisan.

“The items would be distributed to the poor and less privileged across the state,” Idris added. (NAN)
