Sule directs synergy between finance ministry, SDGs

GOV. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has directed the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning and other relevant agencies to work in synergy with the state Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for enhanced budget performance.

Sule, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Emmanuel Akabe, said this on Thursday at the opening ceremony of a two-day high level stakeholders’ workshop in Lafia.

The governor said in compliance with the global best practices, the state government had decided to inculcate SDGs goals into the psychic of the stakeholders.

He also said that the state government had taken steps toward integrating SDGs into the budget and economic planning of the stat, to bring them into one roof.

Sule also said that the aim was to integrate them into the development plans of the state in order to promote transparency and accountability in governance.

The workshop was organised for Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), local government chairmen among others.

Mr Murtala Abubakar, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on SDGs to the governor, said the state had covered lots of grounds to achieve improvement in the life of the people in line with the 17 goals of the SDGs.

He also said that SDGs office in collaboration with local government chairmen and Heads of MDAs, had executed many projects; raging from provision of solar power, construction of blocks of classroom and solar streetlights among others.

Abubakar noted that the integrated sustainable model would help the state and local government areas to improve the living conditions of the people at all levels.

The workshop has as its theme, ‘Integrating SDGs goals into the budget and economic planning of the state.” (NAN)
