Sultan urges utilisation of AANI research recommendations
General News
ALHAJI Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has called for full utilisation of the research conducted by the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (AANI) to address challenges facing the country.
Abubakar made the call on Saturday during a courtesy visit by AANI’s National President, Amb. Emmanuel Okafor, ahead of the Sokoto State chapter’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
He said that AANI members had extensively analysed Nigeria’s problems and offered valuable recommendations.
“There is no challenge in Nigeria that has not been thoroughly examined by AANI members, with generous solutions provided.
“I firmly believe that the research conducted by AANI can address the country’s numerous challenges and enhance the relationship between leaders and the people,” Abubakar said.
He added that AANI members had made significant contributions to policy-making and recommendations aimed at fostering effective leadership in Nigeria.
The Sultan also said the association’s commitment to supporting the government in formulating policies addressing national development and the needs of the people.
Abubakar congratulated the newly elected Sokoto State chapter leaders on their two-year term and commended the outgoing executives for their dedication and contributions to the association’s growth.
Similarly, Okafor acknowledged the critical role played by the senior members like the Sultan in advancing the association’s objectives.
The AANI national president highlighted its long-standing tradition of offering strategic policy recommendations to the government since its establishment in 1979.
He emphasised the need for the three tiers of government to leverage the experience of AANI members, and that of the Sultan, to foster a better society.
Okafor also praised the Sultan as a figure of peace while noting the importance of involving traditional leaders in governance; given their close connection to the grassroots.
The outgoing Chairman, Dr Abubakar Mohammad, reaffirmed the commitment of AANI members to advancing policies that would benefit the country.
Mohammad said the AGM provided an opportunity for members to elect new leaders who would continue steering the association’s affairs in the state.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Ladan, pledged to enhance the visibility of AANI and build mutually beneficial relationships with partners and stakeholders.
He called for support, constructive criticism, and encouragement of members, stating: “Together, we will achieve great things.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that newly elected executives included: Vice Chairperson, Aisha Hassan, Secretary General, Aisha Dantsoho, and Financial Secretary, Bello Wamakko.
Others were: Legal Adviser, Gandi Umar, Treasurer, Prof. Mansur Ibrahim, Publicity Secretary, Amina Garba, Assistant Secretary, Malami Ahmad, and Auditor, Bello Yahaya. (NAN) (
