SUNDERLAND football club has given Emmanuel Eboue, a defender, notice of their intent to terminate his contract, which was only signed when he joined the club on March 9, and runs until the end of the current season.
Eboue has been banned for one year because he owed money to his former agent, soccer’s governing body FIFA said on Thursday, March 31.
However, the FIFA said the ban on the Ivorian would be lifted if he paid the outstanding amount to Sebastien Boisseau, the agent, but the Black Cats said they would terminate his contract according to reports.
Eboue was ordered to pay the undisclosed amount by the FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee in July 2013, a decision taken on the basis of the players’ agents rules, which were in force at the time, but he opted to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS.
The appeal with the CAS has been dismissed and the decision of the FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee confirmed in full.
Eboue was fined $31,162 in September 2014 for failing to comply with the decision and given four months to settle the debut, the FIFA said.
The player has two weeks to lodge an appeal.
