Sunshine Stars record third consecutive draw as Rangers pick away point

SUNSHINE Stars Football Club of Akure on Sunday drew 1-1 with visiting Rangers International FC of Enugu, the third consecutive game they have failed to get a win.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the draw was in match day 13 of their Group B campaign in the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Sunshine Stars had drawn 1-1 with Wikki Tourists FC in Bauchi on match day 10, and Doma United in Akure on match day 11, before this latest draw on match day 13.
They do have a game in hand against Rivers United on match day 12 however.
In the match against Rangers at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure had Sunshine Stars forward Yusuf Ibrahim scoring in the 13th minute.
Rangers drew level 12 minutes later after a defensive mix-up between the home team goalkeeper and one of his defenders.
Sunshine Stars’ efforts to unlock the backline of their visitors were unsuccessful in the second half of the game.
The home team scored in the 89th minute, but the goal was disallowed for a foul on the Rangers goalkeeper by the centre referee.
NAN reports that there was however no post-match interviews as tension flared between both teams and their officials after the referee’s final whistle.
NAN reports that Sunshine Stars are fifth on the log with 18 points, while Rangers are eighth with 14 points in the group B of the NPFL.
