THE police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 45-year-old surveyor, Abimbola Rasheed, at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraudulent conversion of N1.6 million belonging to his client.
The defendant appeared on a three-count charge of fraudulent conversion of money, breach of peace and theft, but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in June 2018 at Egbogun village, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
He said that the surveyor collected N1.6 million from a client, Mrs Titilayo Isimijola, on the pretext that he would survey her land and fence the property.
Ekundayo added that defendant collected the money, refused to execute the job and did not refund the money since June 2018.
“Rasheed was supposed to do a registered survey document for Isimijola after he prepared and submitted the survey document to her.
“She went to the Building Control Office of Lagos State to check the status of the survey and discovered that it was not authentic.
The prosecutor said the offence contravene Sections 168 (d), 287 and 314 (1) (2) (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, A. M. Olumide-Fusika, granted the defendant N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She said that one of the sureties must be a relative of the defendant and the other a civil servant.
She adjourned the case until April 10 for mention.
