SV CEO meets Odegbami, finalizes plans for successful awards ceremony
Sports
THE Chief Executive Officer of Sportsville Communication Services Ltd, Frank Ilaboya, on Sunday afternoon met with the Chairman of this year’s ceremony, Dr Segun Odegbami.
The meeting was arranged to finalise plans for a successful award ceremony fixed for Friday, March 1st, 2024 at EKO CLUB, Surulere Lagos. The meeting, held at Odegbami’s Banana Island residence, was like a reunion of some sort: the duo have not met over two years.
Mathematical Odegbami as usual created a very convivial atmosphere laced with plenty of football talks, especially the just concluded AFCON and politics! We quickly got down to business over a sumptuous lunch served by his chef. The cover of the award brochure first caught the attention of the former Green Eagles Skipper. “Franklin, (that’s what Big Sheg calls me), “this cover looks good, I love the design, weldone!”But how are you coping with the current economic situation in the country, in terms of financing this huge project,” he asks with genuine interest.
It’s my turn to brief Big Sheg (yes that’s what those of us close to him calls him) His listens with rapt attention, the type a father would give to his son. He nods his head for approval when I was done! Big Sheg is a stickler of excellence when it comes to work.
“I trust you to do a good job, you have been a disciplined man with focus. Congratulations ahead!
“For those who don’t know, Segun Odegbami was the one that gave me the break to be on TV when he offered me employment to work with him in 1996 as a TV reporter and eventually, as a presenter. Working with him at Worldwide Sports Ltd then was an exciting experience.
Since then, TV has transformed my life and today, I owe this to Segun Odegbami. Agreeing to Chair this occasion is a big and rare privilege for me and the entire crew working on this project.
26th February, 2024.
