THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra has urged road users to take responsibility for their safety to avoid road accident.
The State Sector Commander of the corps, Mrs Joyce Alexander, gave the advice in Awka at an event to commemorate the 37th Customers Service Week celebration.
The 2024 Customers Service week has as its theme ”Above and Beyond.”
The customer service week marked between October 7 and 11, is an international celebration that calls attention to the importance of customer services and the people who provide the services.
“Every motorist is an adult who knows what is right or wrong and does not need the enforcement from FRSC officials to do what is right.
“You see that when people travel to other countries, they obey the traffic rules but when they are in Nigeria they can not apply same, why?
“It means people know what they are doing. FRSC will continue to create safe motoring environment but a road user should understand that your safety is your absolute responsibility,” he said.
Alexander listed the functions of the corps to include preventing or minimising road traffic accidents, clearing obstruction, and educating motorists and the public on road safety.
“We carry out patrol activities, prompt response to road emergencies, rescue operation and free safety checks without enforcement. All these efforts have helped to reduces crashes on our roads.
“Clearing of backlog on driver’s licence production, recommendation to state government to fix bad spots on the roads and partnership with relevant stakeholders are the effective service delivery for customer’s satisfaction,” she said.
The FRSC further appreciated the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) with a commendation letter for its constant availability in media coverage in all its activities in the state.
