THE Ondo State Task Force on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs on Wednesday sealed off no fewer than two patent medicine shops in Owo, Owo Local Government Area of the state, over unethical practices.
Mr Gbenga Lasekan, who led the task force, said that it was worrisome that some pharmaceutical owners were “stiff-necked and hell-bent’’ in continuation of their illegal practices.
Lasekan noted that the sealed outlets were located within the premises not allowed by the regulatory body.
The leader of the task force said that it was not permitted to sell drugs inside wooden or iron containers and inside motor parks as seen in the area.
He said the safety of such drugs could not be guaranteed; for such environments could damage drugs.
Lasekan said that the state government would not relent in its efforts in making sure that unethical practices harmful to human consumption of drugs are nipped in the bud.
According to him, all affected individuals should report to the ministry for appropriate sanctions.
Lasekan said that apart from the two shops sealed, some drugs were as well seized from two other shops for the same offence.
He urged major stakeholders dispensing drugs to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the profession because of the health of the people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the task force comprises of officials of the ministry, men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). (NAN)
