A Karu Grade I Area Court, sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced a 38-year-old man, Kingsley Ede, to cutting grasses within the court premises for three weeks for duping his customer of N12,000.
The convict, a resident of Jikwoyi, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation preferred against him and pleaded for leniency.
The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave him an option of N10,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that one Happy Ezekiel of Old Chief Palace, Karu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Nov. 21.
“According to the complainant, he entrusted the sum of N12,000 to the convict in order to enable him purchase a new compressor to replace the one in his refrigerator.
“But, with intent to cheat the complainant, the convict dishonestly collected the money, failed to purchase the compressor and converted the money into his personal use.
“The convict, after perpetrating the act, disappeared to an unknown destination, until he was tracked and arrested through an electronic tracking device,” Adeyanju told the court.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code Law. (NAN)
