Delivering judgment, Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek, convicted and sentenced John based on the evidence tendered by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

She  ordered that the sentence will start from the date of judgment.

The judge also ordered the NDLEA to destroy the exhibits found in his possession.

Earlier, the defence counsel, J.A. Agbo begged the court to show mercy on his client by reducing his sentence being a first time offender.

Himinkaiye said John was arrested by NDLEA operatives on July 30, 2020, in Ilora Town, Jobele Local Government, Oyo State with a sack containing 2.6 kg of the illicit weed.

The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under the provisions of Section 11 (C ) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation 2004.
