Teenager charged with peddling 100g hemp

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has charged one 19-year-old Abdulwahab Jamiu with peddling 100g of cannabis sativa (hemp).
The one-count charge of drug trafficking, marked FHC/L/45c/2021, is before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, alleged that the defendant committed the offenses on Feb. 16 at Lekki, Lagos, while dealing on the banned substance.
According to the prosecution, hemp, like heroin and cocaine are restricted by law.
Trafficking in hemp contravenes the provisions of Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
Drug trafficking is punishable with up to life imprisonment.
No date has been fixed for the arraignment of the defendant.(NAN)
