Teenager docked over alleged attempt to steal iPhones worth N564,000 from company

AN 18-year-old boy, Goodnews Okisola, was, on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to steal two iPhones valued at N564,000 from a company.

Okisola, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial for intent to commit felony and attempted theft.

The Prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant was arrested on March 3 by a security personnel at 2B, Universal Close, Ikeja.

Ajayi said that the defendant was arrested at Jumia Logistics Company where he attempted to steal two iPhone X valued at N564,000 by removing it from where it was kept.

The prosecutor said that the defendant was caught by the security attached to the company and handed over to the police.

He added that the defendant confessed to the crime during police investigations.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 21 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Section 308 prescribes five years imprisonment for anyone with intent to commit felony, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Kubeinje said that the sureties must be reliable, with an affidavit of means, proof of tax payment and verification of address by the court registrar.

She said that the sureties must also present recent passport photograph and valid identification cards, which must be verified by the court registrar.

The Magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the matter till April 12 for hearing. (NAN)
