Teenager docked over alleged bag snatching

A teenager, Ayo Akande, who allegedly snatched a handbag containing a phone and N25,000, on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.

Nineteen-year-old Akande, who has no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, Akande snatched the handbag of Miss Mode Babajide containing N25,000 and a Tecno phone worth N20,000.

Orogbemi said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9), of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.

Ayeomoni said that the surety must present evidence of one year tax payment.

He adjourned the case until June 29 for substantive hearing. (NAN)
