MR Adebola Badru, Chairman, Baysil Consults Limited, on Wednesday said there was the need for all strata of society to start to rethink how to conduct businesses in the post-COVID-19 environment.

He spoke as the induction workshop for newly-elevated Principals and Vice Principals in Lagos State entered its second day, extolling the leadership of Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) for preparing the promoted staff for the challenge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 100 vice-principals were elevated to become Principals, while 96 teachers became vice-principals in Lagos State public schools.

The theme of the two-day induction/training programme is “Re-imaging leadership in managing post-Primary/Secondary Education in Lagos State”.

”The public sector cannot be left behind in the new order; with the prevailing environment, the need to rethink the management and administration of educational institutions cannot be overemphasised.

”I am glad that teaching service commission is already taking steps to equip leaders in public schools with the necessary tools and upscaling them to become effective managers.

”With this conscious effort from the state, the Principals/vice-principals are now capable of fostering productive learning environments and driving greater results,” Badru said.

The Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs Elizabeth Ariyo, had on Tuesday said that the induction would expose successful officers to issues bordering on school administration/management.

According to Ariyo, the induction and training exercise for newly elevated principals and vice-principals is in line with the objectives of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the provision of quality education.

She said that the exercise was an apt process to equip, re-orientate and reinforce the capabilities of policy drivers in schools, with emphasis on aiding the school management with modern techniques.

“Your role in school administration is to be key change agents that will be remembered for shaping future leaders.

“You must embrace technology, which has become a very strong inevitable tool in our daily lives in improving the quality of teaching and learning in our schools.

“On behalf of the commission I congratulate you all and implore you to take advantage of the opportunity to integrate yourselves, as a policy driver, to actualise Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda,’’ she said.

Mrs Toyin Sam-Emehelu, the Lead consultant, Core skills Development Services, one of the facilitators at the induction exercise, also commended TESCOM on the training.

She said that the induction/training exercise would go a long way in equipping the beneficiaries in managing their staff members, and most importantly communicating their visions to their schools.

Sam-Emehelu said that it was an initiative put together by TESCOM to ensure they had the same board experience, being newly elevated principals and vice-principals.

“TESCOM is very proactive in putting this programme together with such that it would help the officials think through these sections, and when those challenges come, they would be able to solve them,” she said.

“We also shared with them the tips of taking good care of themselves, because it takes a healthy leader to lead a healthy school.

“They also learnt the four key roles, which are visionary leadership, instructional leadership; collaborative leadership and having the skills to carry all stakeholders in their schools along.
“We also shared with them tips on technical and practical steps on how to get started, having a vision and communicating the visions’ to a member of the school environment.

“For a credible success, we told them that they must ensure they select the right people to carry their objectives of what they want to achieve.

“They can do this by using tools such as mentoring and other technical skills,’’ Sam- Emehelu said.(NAN)
