ThisDay Publisher Surrenders to EFCC
BREAKING NEWS, Politics
–
NDUKA Obaigbena publisher of ThisDay newspapers has surrendered himself to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, over his alleged involvement in the arms deal scandal for which Sambo Dasuki, a retired colonel and former national security adviser is now facing trial. Obaigbena allegedly received N500 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, in the wake of 2015 general elections.
However, the publisher had in a letter to the anti-graft commission, claimed that he received the money for compensation of the bombing of ThisDay newspapers premises in Abuja by Boko Haram terrorists and on behalf of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria, NPAN.
Obaigbena disclosed names of other newspapers said to have also benefitted from the largesse. Some of the publications were said to have returned the N9 million given for the loss suffered in the wake of impounding some newspapers by the military last year before the election.
ThisDay publisher arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday, January 26, and there has been no report of his release.
