Three men allegedly assault, steal N4,200 from police officers

THREE men have been accused of assaulting some policemen during official duty, and they have also been suspected of stealing N4,200 from the alleged victims during the incident.
Consequently, the Police on Friday arraigned the three suspects in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for the alleged offence.
The defendants: Emenike Nnadi, 33; Rapsody Raphael, 35; and Uche Ukalu, 32, of Zone 3 Shopping Complex, Abuja, are standing trial on four counts bordering on joint act, assault and theft.
The prosecutor, Adeniyi Oyeyemi, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences on Thursday, February 7, 2019.
He said that Insp. Cecilia Onyewuechi and others attached to the Wuse Police Division, Abuja, reported the matter at the station.
He said that the defendants allegedly conspired to deter the Police officers from performing their lawful duty while the policemen were trying to arrest Nnadi.
The prosecutor added that in the process, the defendants stole N4,200 from a Police officer’s pocket.
He said that the offences contravened sections 79, 267, 149 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Rapheal Egbe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with a surety each in like sum . He adjourned the case until March.7 for hearing. (NAN)
