Three-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos

MANY are feared dead and dozens trapped after a building collapsed on Monday, May 29, in Lagos.
The residential building, which is located at No.24, Daddy Alaja Street, off Issa Williams Street, in Apongbon area of Lagos Island.
As at press time, the cause(s) of the collapse could not be ascertained immediately as rescue operation was still ongoing.
Eye witnesses said some occupants, including children, might have died instantly after the building collapsed. Many occupants have also being rescued, but observers said that the process was slow as operators could not be able to reach many trapped occupants.
Adesina Tiamiyu, general manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, confirmed the incident. He assured that LASEMA officials would do its best to rescue as many persons as possible.
