THE detained U.S. citizen, Tigran Gambaryan, was on Tuesday denied bail by an Abuja High Court despite meeting all the requirements for bail on medical ground..

According to the statement by his spokesman, there is a clear precedent in Nigeria in granting bail for the allegations which Tigran is standing trial for and the decision to deny him bail goes against common practice in Nigeria.

He stated that since he was moved to the Kuje prison in March 2024, Tigran has suffered countless health scares and is now at a point where he is in so much physical pain from a herniated disc in his back that he can no longer walk without assistance.

He added that several doctors, including the prison’s doctor have clearly reported that Tigran requires medical help that the prison cannot provide.

Tigran’s wife, Yuki Gamabryan said: “We all know that Tigran was never a decision-maker at Binance and that he is entirely innocent, but I am not surprised by this decision. It is completely unjust to deny someone in Tigran’s condition the opportunity to seek appropriate medical help and I just pray that when he is finally released that the damage he is suffering is not permanent. I am exhausted and deeply disappointed, but I will continue fighting for my husband’s rightful freedom.”

According to the statement, after the decision was made on the bail application, the cross-examination of the witness from the Central Bank of Nigeria in the trial continued.
