Tinubu: Supreme Court distilled law, facts from social media legal advocacy – group

THE Convener of the Vanguard for Judicial Independence, Mr Douglas Ogbankwa, says Supreme Court judgment affirming election of President Bola Tinubu has distilled law and facts from propaganda and social media legal advocacy.
Ogbankwa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that, with the verdict of the apex court, all hands should be on deck to move the nation forward.
NAN reports that the Supreme Court dismissed appeals filed against Tinubu’s election by the PDP Candidate for the election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart, Mr Peter Obi.
Abubakar and Obi had challenged affirmation of Tinubu’s election by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
They had asked the tribunal to nullify the Feb. 25 presidential election over alleged electoral fraud and other issues.
Ogbankwa said that the apex court reflected justice and the rule of law in the judgment.
He urged all the parties to sheath their swords and join hands with the president to make Nigeria greater.
“The decision of the Supreme Court affirming Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President of Nigeria depicts a good day for democracy.
“The determination of the thorny issue of a presidential candidate scoring 25 per cent in the FCT, as a sine qua non to be president, has now established a locus classicus in Nigeria ‘s jurisprudential trajectory,” he said.
According to him, the supreme court’s decision distills law and facts from propaganda and social media legal advocacy, which, he said, had misled many.
“The verdict is a testament of the reality of the law and the futility of social media legal advocacy viz-a-viz the failed attempt to intimidate the Nigerian Judiciary.
“The legal battles are over. It is now time for us to join hands together to build a country we will all be proud of,” he said.
Ogbankwa said that Nigeria would be great again if every citizen would play their roles in nation-building.
“The president of Nigeria cannot do it alone. We all have roles to play in this journey, and we must remain positive,” he urged. (NAN)
