TEAM Nigeria’s taekwondo athlete Elizabeth Anyanacho on Thursday departed the country for the African Taekwondo Championships holding from Saturday to Sunday in Dakar, Senegal.
Chika Chukwumerije, the Technical Director of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
“The championships is part of Anyanacho’s preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Games which she has qualified for,” he said.
Chukwumerije said he and two others were accompanying the female taekwondo athlete, listing the others as African champion Chinazum Nwosu and a physiotherapist.
“We are all aware that Anyanacho is taking advantage of the forthcoming championships in Senegal to tidy up her preparations for the Games.
“While she is living up to expectations to fortify herself for a good outing, it is equally proper that we extend our support to her, by way of prayers and encouragement,” he said.
The world taekwondo educator added that heads of the team meeting at the championships would be held later on Thursday, while athletes in Anyanacho’s weight category would go for their weigh-in on Friday.
The three-time Olympian disclosed that the tournament would be the last major event prior to the Summer Olympic Games for Anyanacho before the Games’ taekwondo event.(NAN)
