Coronavirus Pandemic

TOUR de France director Christian Prudhomme has tested positive for the COVID -19, the cycling race organisers said on Tuesday.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex, who accompanied Prudhomme in his car for part of Saturday’s stage of the race, said he was also due to be tested.

The Tour de France took a rest day on Monday, a week into the race, and all riders and back-up staff were tested for the disease.

None of the riders tested positive, the organisers said. Prudhomme will quarantine himself for seven days, they added.

President Emmanuel Macron said Castex would be subject to the same rules as anyone else and would have to go into isolation if he tested positive.

“We are doing the same for ourselves as we are asking all our fellow citizens to do,” he said during a visit to a youth employment centre.

A planned governmental seminar scheduled for Wednesday would probably be held by video conference “as far as the prime minister and any other contact cases are concerned,” Macron added. (dpa/NAN)
