Trade ministry targets excellence in delivering mandate

DR Evelyn Ngige, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has reiterated the need for deliberate steps toward excellence in delivering the mandate of the ministry.
Ngige said this at a one-day sensitisation workshop organised for Directors and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of agencies and parastatals under the ministry on Thursday in Abuja.
The event had the theme “Optimisation of the Federal Government Reform Policies on Service Compact with all Nigerians (SERVICOM)’’.
Represented by Mr Yisau Adepoju, the Director, Human Resources Department in the ministry, Ngige called for the buy in of stakeholders and CEOs into Federal Government’s reform policies and SERVICOM initiatives.
According to her, SERVICOM is the engine room of the Federal Government service delivery initiatives aimed at ameliorating the trauma associated with service failure.
“This at the same time encourages citizens to recognise that challenging service failure is both civic right and civic responsibility.
“It is pertinent to note that we will not be seen to deliver on our mandate if customers are not satisfied with our services.
“Therefore, deliberate steps are to be taken to ensure excellent services are delivered at all service fronts so as to effectively deliver on the mandates of the ministry,’’ Ngige said.
On her part, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, the National Coordinator/CEO, SERVICOM, said that the drive for excellent service delivery in the ministry would attract more investors in Nigeria.
She said that it would also provide the needed response to the expectations of Nigerians.
While calling for a review of the service chatter, Akajemeli urged various state governments to adopt SERVICOM.
According to her, it is important to ensure that what is promised by government is delivered to the people.
“When expectations are not met both, public service and citizens suffer,’’ she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop provided an enabling avenue for knowledge transmission, information dissemination and awareness creation on customer focused service delivery. (NAN)
