BESSY Eziechila, a Consultant Paediatrician at Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jabi, Abuja, says traditional rulers have vital roles to play in the war against polio in the country.

Ezichiela, who said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, said royal fathers could play many vital roles toward polio eradication, especially in rural areas.

She said that victory over polio in Nigeria could not be completely achieved without direct involvement of traditional rulers, especially in educating and sensitising their subjects on the disease and its ills.

The medical practitioner also called for the participation of religious organisations in the country to stem the tide of polio.

He said “traditional rulers and religious leaders must be involved in the polio fight. They are
the ones that are constantly in contact with the masses at the grassroots.” (NAN)
