A 22-year-old tricyclist, Ayuba Bashiru, who allegedly conspired to abduct and rape a 13- year-old girl, was on Thursday remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P. E. Nwaka, ordered that the case file should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for advice.
Nwaka adjourned the case until July 16, for mention.
Bashiru, who resides at No. 42, Owoduni St., Ajegunle in Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, abduction and rape.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher John, had told the court that the accused committed the offences with others now at large between May 31 and June 2, at his residence.
He said the accused and his accomplices abducted the girl on her way to an errand for her mother.
According to John, the accused held the girl hostage for two days in his house and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
“Bashiru and his gang also jointly kept the girl in his house and gang raped her,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offences contravene Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
