U.S. President Donald Trump will host his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, at the White House on April 9, according to a statement from the administration.

The White House statement noted “Egypt’s long-standing role as a lynchpin of regional stability’’ and said the two leaders would discuss their “strategic partnership’’ including on areas such as their military, economic and counterterrorism cooperation.

Egypt’s president, a former general who seized power in 2013, often faces criticism from human rights groups over repression at home. (dpa/NAN)
