SUNSHINE Stars Football Club of Akure beat visiting Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna 2-0 to secure the maximum three points in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Udom Ekerette and Samson Olasupo scored in the 12th and 33rd minutes respectively in the Match Day 7 fixture.

Ekerette nodded home from a corner-kick before Olasupo tapped into the net from a beautiful team move to give the hosts victory at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

The second half of the match which had Super Eagles’ coach Jose Paseiro in attendance became a mere formality as both sides failed to find the back of the net.

Sunshine Stars’ Head Coach, Edith Agoye, in his post-match interview later said his team was yet gotten to where he was targeting.

“We remain a team in progress.”

Agoye added that Sunshine Stars were yet to be stable, even though they are with abundant potential for improvement.

He said the team would continue to work hard until Sunshine Stars became formidable to the admiration of all sports lovers in the state.

“We have a margin for improvement and we are going to explore this margin positively,” the coach said.

The former Shooting Stars coach however said Peseiro’s presence was a good incentive for both the League and sports lovers in Ondo State.

“My players had their eyes set on the important three points, and they knew they have to work hard to get the three points and that was exactly what they did.

“Our next game will be against Dakkada FC in Uyo. We will go to Uyo to fight for the three points at stake.

“We will give everything we can on the field of play. And whatever happens at the end of the 90 minutes will be able to be proud of what we have able to do,” he said.

On his part, Niger Tornadoes’ coach, Bala Mohammad, commended the match officials for their professional disposition in handling the game.

”The match is one of the best I have seen this season.

“It was a good game, in spite of the fact that we lost the game in the first half due to poor partnership in our defence,” he said.(NAN)
