Typical of David Umahi
Opinion
By Val Obienyem
Engr. David Umahi has always displayed a narrow-minded approach. It is evident in his actions and statements, such as his recent comment implying that Mr. Peter Obi is trying to pit Igbos against President Ahmed Tinubu.
In commenting on the coastal road project, Obi did not make any direct or indirect reference to an ethnic group. However, in his usual attempt to show loyalty to Tinubu, Umahi unjustly linked Obi’s speech to inciting conflict between Igbos and Tinubu.
How does the recommendation to prioritize the completion of existing road projects relate to inciting conflict between ethnic groups and Tinubu? Similarly, what does considering the potential suffering caused by a project have to do with Umahi’s argument?
They attempted to highlight the demolition of Premier’s perimeter fence when Obi expanded the Head Bridge road from two to six lanes, despite the fact that it was solely the fence that was affected, having no connection to the entire complex.
This is the same man who, as Governor of Ebonyi state, stood alone against the rest of the Igbo community. Now, he positions himself as the champion of the Igbo cause, yet opposes any notion of Igbo-Tinubu rivalry.
Why do Igbo figures like Joe Igbokwe and Peter Clever Oparah consistently seek to stand on ashes of their own kind to demonstrate love for others? This is exactly why Umahi initially named Ebonyi Airport after former President Muhammadu Buhari, the “Destroyer of Nigeria.”
