U.S.-based NGO trains 699 health workers, 7,000 volunteers in Adamawa

A United States based NGO, HELEN  KELLER International,  says it has trained no fewer than 7,777 and 699 health workers on treatment and management of Neglected Tropical Diseases NTDs in Adamawa

Miss Doma Jusyine, the Head of the State Lead Team, disclosed this to mark the World NTDs Day in Yola on Monday.

She said the training was conducted in collaboration with the Adamawa Government, adding they also trained 2 medical doctors on Trachoma and four surgeon assistants.

Earlier in his remarks, Prof. Isah Abdullahi, the state Commissioner for Health, said in the last 23 years,  4.3 million people were treated against River blindness and Lymphatic filariasis in the state.

‘We achieved this feat in  collaboration with the Helen Keller group,” he said.

According to him, surgeries had been conducted against trachomatous trichiasis (blinding trachoma) in the three endemic LGAs of Toungo, Numan and Fufore.

He said 153 cases were successfully managed, adding that the LGAs had been transitioned to the health system in line with global best practices .(NAN)
