THE U.S. military announced the killing of a senior operative from the terrorist group Hurras al-Din, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in north-western Syria.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed in a statement that its forces conducted a “precision airstrike” targeting and killing a senior finance and logistics official from Hurras al-Din.

“The airstrike is part of CENTCOM’s ongoing efforts, alongside regional partners, to disrupt and degrade terrorist operations aimed at planning, organising, and executing attacks on civilians and military personnel,” the statement added.

Hurras al-Din was designated a terrorist organisation by the U.S. in 2019.

The European Union added the group to its terror list in May 2022, citing its involvement in planning external terrorist operations. (dpa/NAN)
