U.S. Secretary of State meets Algerian President, Foreign Minister on economy, security others

ANTONY J. Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State met with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Ramtane Lamamra, the Foreign Minister of Algeria on Wednesday in Algiers to discuss economic, regional security stability as well as cultural ties and exchanges health and climate issues. This was contained in a press statement signed from the office of Ned Price, the spokesperson.
According to the statement, the secretary also discussed the designation of the United States as the Country of Honor at the Algiers International Trade Fair and the Biden-led Administration’s commitment to broaden and deepen the relationship with Algeria through human rights and freedoms advancement.
Blinken also met with U.S. business representatives in Algeria to discuss deepening economic ties and promoting U.S.-Algeria trade and investment.
The statement highlighted that the United States shares a constantly improving strong government-to-government and people-to-people levels cultural and economic relations with Algeria.
Recall that the United States and Algeria share a long history from the 1795 Treaty of Peace and Amity and their bilateral relationship continues to flourish. In line with this, Deputy Secretary Wendy Sherman met with Foreign Minister Lamamra earlier last month in Algiers to express support for the efforts of the leadership of Staffan de Mistura, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General to advance a durable and dignified conflict resolution in Western Sahara.
