THE United States has expressed commitment to supporting the humanitarian needs of the Ukrainian people through its government as Russia continues to invade the country, according to the statement by Antony J. Blinken, the U.S Secretary of States on March 15, 2022.
Blinken stated the United States is providing not less than additional $186 million humanitarian assistance “to support internally displaced persons and the more than three million refugees affected by Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified war in Ukraine”.
“This will provide further support for humanitarian organizations responding to the crisis and complement the generosity of the neighbouring countries that are welcoming and supporting refugees,” he said
The statement also revealed that the U.S is taking the lead in the humanitarian support given to the Ukrainian government in this time of war having donated over $644 million.
“The United States is the largest single-country donor of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, including providing nearly $293 million in humanitarian assistance both inside Ukraine and in the region since late February. Our funding to-date amounts to nearly $644 million to vulnerable communities in the region since Russia first invaded Ukraine eight years ago,” it revealed
In addition to this acclamation, the office of Ned Price, U.S spokesperson came an echo of massive support to the victims, and that through the USAID’s Disaster Assistance Response Team, DART, the United States has been on its toes ensuring that the humanitarian needs of the affected, displaced people are met.
“Over the past week alone, USAID has rapidly deployed four planeloads of lifesaving supplies from our warehouse in Dubai and mobilized our partners to immediately stand up surge support.
“We are working with the Government of Ukraine, neighboring governments in the region, the European Union, international organizations like the United Nations, and other partners around the clock to address the urgent humanitarian needs of this crisis. We are closely coordinating with these partners to monitor developments, assess needs, and respond accordingly.
It will be recalled that the U.S had given a total of $1.2 billion to Ukraine for military assistance and Ukraine’s defense in pursuant to a delegation by the president’s defense.
