HOUSE of Representatives member-elect for Isoko Federal Constituency, Pst. Jonathan Ukodhiko has called for increased children-focused interventions by government at all levels.
Ukodhiko made the call on Saturday in a statement commemorating the 2023 Children’s Day celebration.
He said, “the call has become very compelling due to the stark reality that children are now the most neglected and endangered specie in our nation.”
According to him, children are key factors in families and, they are very fundamental in every given society.
“It is quite unfortunate, there are over 15million out of school children in our country, the figure which is more than the populations of some countries.
“It is alarming, we all must be genuinely concerned. We must take sincere, serious and strategic steps in remedying the ugly situation which portends a bleak future for our nation.
“As we celebrate the Children’s Day, we must pause and think about the welfare and future of the Nigerian child.”
The Isoko Federal lawmaker-elect promised to champion laws that would ensure children who ought to be in school are removed from the streets and roads of the nation, from hawking and other sundry issues.
Ukodhiko appealed to State Governments to not only enact the Child’s Right Act but implement it in order to guarantee the future of the Nigerian child.
“From local to state and Federal, deliberate efforts should be made to provide accessible and affordable quality education, healthcare, water and other social amenities for children to grow and have a good future.
The former Delta Energy Commissioner urged parents and teachers to strive to bring up and teach their children and students the lores and the ethos of life.
“They must inculcate in children and wards wisdom, patience, tact, truthfulness, diligence, hardwork, dignity of labor and self-reliance, prudence and modesty.
“The joy of relentless pursuit of knowledge and of education must be imbued in the Nigerian children for them to be better prepared for global competition.
“As member representing Isoko Federal Constituency, I’ll not only expand opportunities for the Isoko children but I’ll ensure equal opportunities for them all.
“I felicitate with all Nigerian children wherever they are. I celebrate with the leaders of tomorrow. You are the hopes and pride of our nation. Be assured of a better, safer Nigeria you will grow in and have a brighter future “ Ukodhiko said
